There have been recent rumours about a radiation leak in Pakistan, particularly concerning the Kirana Hills area in Sargodha district. These claims surfaced amid reports of Indian airstrikes during a military operation dubbed "Operation Sindoor."

However, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has officially denied any radiation leak or release from Pakistani nuclear facilities. The agency clarified that there is no evidence of a radioactive incident in the region, aiming to dispel misinformation and assure the public of the safety of Pakistan's nuclear installations.

Despite these reassurances, public concern persists due to the strategic importance of Kirana Hills, which is believed to house underground nuclear stockpiles. The fear stems from the potential dangers even a minute quantity of plutonium poses.

Additionally, the Indian Air Force has dismissed allegations of targeting the Kirana Hills site, and no credible evidence supports claims of a nuclear incident.

In summary, while rumours have caused public anxiety, authoritative sources confirm that there has been no radiation leak in Pakistan.

REALITY of ceasefire between Pak-India

As of May 16, 2025, the ceasefire between India and Pakistan remains fragile and under significant strain, following a series of escalations that began in late April.

Background: Escalation After Pahalgam Attack

Tensions intensified after a terrorist attack on April 22 in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in the deaths of 26 Indian civilians. India attributed the attack to Pakistan-based militants, leading to heightened military alertness and a series of cross-border skirmishes.

Ceasefire Agreement and Violations

On May 10, both nations agreed to a ceasefire, reportedly facilitated by U.S. diplomatic efforts. However, within hours, India reported violations, including cross-border firing and drone sightings over Srinagar and Punjab . Subsequent reports indicated that Pakistani troops continued ceasefire violations along the Line of Control (LoC) for multiple consecutive nights, targeting areas such as Kupwara, Baramulla, Poonch, Rajouri, Mendhar, Naushera, Sunderbani, and Akhnoor . The Indian Army responded with proportionate force while maintaining operational restraint.

Diplomatic and Military Responses

India's Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri condemned the ceasefire breaches and stated that the armed forces have been instructed to respond strongly to any violations . Despite hotline communications between the Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both countries, the ceasefire violations persisted .

While there have been reports of stabilization in some areas since May 11, the overall situation remains tense. Both nations continue to accuse each other of violating the ceasefire, and the potential for further escalation cannot be ruled out.
